Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, (ACT) recognises that life often throws us a curveball. It helps us to accept the difficulties we are faced with, so we learn to live with them rather than fighting against them. ACT uses mindfulness in it’s approach to help enable the client to notice their thoughts.
ACT helps us to assess how our our life values are fitting in to various aspects of our our lives such as relationships, leisure, work and health. A value is what you want your life to to be about. Living in accordance with your values, helps you live a more meaningful, fulfilling, rewarding and in turn, happier life.
I often integrate ACT principles into therapy to help accept uncomfortable feelings, and to construct a a more rewarding and fulfilling life plan moving forwards.
