Compassion Focused Therapy is a 3rd wave therapy developed by Professor Paul Gilbert. It’s main premise is developing compassion for ones-self and others.

Compassion is a basic kindness, with deep awareness of the suffering of oneself and of other living things, coupled with the wish and effort to relieve it.

CFT recognises how we got here, where we came from, how our ancestors lived, and the fact that we were born having no input into the make up or the workings of our brains. How then can it be our fault that our brains play trick on us? As it’s not our fault, we are not to blame, so CFT helps us stop blaming ourselves for how we think and feel, reducing self-criticism and shame. This idea also extends to others around us too.
